How to Get Your Baby or Toddler to Wear Sunglasses
You've bought the sunnies, put them on, and within seconds they're on the floor. Sound familiar? Most little ones need a bit of time to get used to sunglasses. These tips help.
1. Get the right size
Sunglasses that pinch or slide down get pulled off fast. Babies (0–24 months) usually need a smaller frame with a strap. Kids (2–8 years) need a slightly bigger frame. Check our size guide if you're unsure.
2. Use a strap for under-twos
An adjustable strap keeps sunnies in place on wriggly babies, and stops them ending up in the sand (or the mouth). All our baby sunglasses come with one.
3. Start before it's bright
Put them on before you step into the sun, not after the squinting starts. A grumpy, squinting toddler is much harder to convince.
4. Keep the first goes short
Try a few minutes at a time in the garden or on a walk, then build up. Praise every success.
5. Wear yours too
Little ones love to copy. Pop your sunnies on at the same time and make it a family thing.
6. Let them choose
For toddlers, picking their own colour gives them ownership. A pair they chose is a pair they want to wear.
7. Make it a game
Every pair of Baby Sunnies comes with a secret fish card. Look at it through the lenses and a hidden fish appears. Kids love the "magic", and it gives them a reason to keep them on.
8. Distract and redirect
If they pull them off, calmly pop them back on and offer a toy or snack. Consistency wins over a few days.
