Choosing Toddler Sunglasses in South Africa: What to Look For

Toddlers are busy, rough and very good at pulling things off their faces. Here's what makes a pair worth buying.
- Real UV400 protection. Check that it's clearly stated. If it isn't, the glasses may be a fashion toy.
- Polarised lenses cut glare at the beach, the pool and in the car. Here's how polarised and UV400 differ.
- Tough, flexible frames. Toddlers sit on, bend and drop everything. Durable, BPA-free TPU frames twist, flex and spring back.
- The right size. Under two, choose a baby size with a strap. From about two to eight, go for a kids size. Too big and light gets in around the edges, and too small means they'll be uncomfortable.
- Comfort, so they'll actually wear them. Lightweight, with no pressure points on the nose or ears.
- A pouch. Lenses can scratch in sandy beach bags, so storing them properly makes them last much longer.
Tips for toddlers who resist
Let them choose the colour, wear yours together, and make putting them on part of the routine before going outside.
Shop kids sunglasses for ages 2 to 8, or baby sunglasses for under-twos.
